Advice needed

  • One final thought I had last night is to work out how much the mortgage is.

If it is less than £500 a month, it might be worth your husband taking time out of his career and get over the nightmare that happened and look after your youngest for a year or two until school starts.

You could then stop the nursery as soon as the disciplinary hearing is over, saving you what you need to pay the mortgage.

Asking the mortgage company to go interest only for a couple of years is also a good suggestion.
  • Your local CAB may be able to give you some advice re dismissal procedure /employment tribunal process , also benefits, debts - and it's all free.

Hi there, so sorry to hear of what's happened. Similar thing happened to my mother 2 years ago, an allegation was made against her that she hurt a patient (she's a nurse)- an allegation made by a member of staff so taken v seriously and she too was suspended. It's a very stressful time so I do feel for you but it sounds like you're being very sensible and supportive which will be a huge help to your hubby.

As my mother didn't have a partner at the time I helped her and made up a budget spreadsheet to see whether all the basic household bills could be paid just on basic benefits if it came to that, as well as on a minimum wage job and it was very reassuring to see that it was possible and she wouldn't lose her home or starve! It would be a good idea for you to do the same thing.

I also suggest that your husband write or type a detailed statement of what happened in the situation/whatever he has been accused of, and date it so that has it for future reference, as time passes small details sometimes get forgotten or blurred.

If he has to go to a formal meeting (very likely that he will)- please make sure that he has someone to accompany him, ideally a union rep or solicitor (the previous suggestion about checking if you have legal cover on your insurance policy is a good one)- failing that, even youself. My mother luckily had her union rep who was brilliant, I have a strong feeling they would have walked all over my mother and it would have been a terrible outcome had she not had someone 'in the know' present to support her and make sure the correct procedures were followed.

I sincerely hope that this is resolved and your husband's name is cleared. My mother got a new job, thank god there had been another qualified staff member with her that had been present at the supposed 'incident' and was able to confirm nothing inappropriate had happened, and that it was mischief-making by a staff member who had tried to get my mother in trouble about other things. Otherwise it could have been her career down the drain. She's doing great and has since had promotions at her new job. Hopefully in 2 years time it will be similar good news and progression for your husband- I genuinely hope so.

    Take care, Summerday.
Yesterday is today's memories, tomorrow is today's dreams :)
