Yea bit annoyed its not ddr3. I have a intel duo cpu 8700, with 256gb ssd and 1gb hd4650 graphics card so should be ok, will probably look at increasing RAM in future

I wouldn't be. A lot of DDR3 benches lower than DDR2 due to higher latency.

You've done the one thing to address the biggest bottleneck in all computers but I can't bring myself to do because of the price - change the hard drive to SSD.

If you're using windows 32bit you'll only be able to use 3gb ram as your graphics card is using 1gb of the 4gb addressable space of 32bit systems.
  • i have windows ultimate 64 bit, machine runs ok, just always wish it would run a bit faster! SSD however does make things so much quicker, esp boot up time

Of course that becomes a somewhat bigger job, needing not just with new RAM to feel the benefit, but new OS and frankly new 64-bit versions of the software to have any real value ... all for a diminishing return for almost all circumstances. It may just not be worth it or the hassle!

  • 4GB of RAM with Windows 7 64-bit will make a noticeable difference over a 2GB 32-bit OS setup, but definitely not worth going to 8GB unless you actually have a proper need to. As mentioned above though, 2GB is usually enough for 90% of people.
