Switching from Southern Electric

I've been searching for information for a relative who asks if they can switch from southern electric, their tariff is called super saver and they have 3 meter readings one for day one for night and one called stored heat energy. There is no mains gas in their area.

They were told they couldn't sign up to npower because of the 3 readings (I told them it was their lucky day) but does anyone know if it means they are tied to Southern, is a meter change needed to switch ? Would be nice to have some information before contacting them next week.

Attempting to change from such a supplier/tariff (whilst maintaining the same setup) invariably ends in tears.

It probably won't just be a meter change. Consult an electrician if determined to go ahead.

Many thanks Premier, they had a new system installed when they moved house 6 years ago but I can understand why they are thinking about switching as they have been massively overcharged by Southern. Probably best advice would be to ask about a change of tariff rather than supplier if it is going to be a hassle ?

In what way have they been 'overcharged'?

Any change will invariably end in tears (unless other revisions are carried out)

I don't know the details Kim but they had a large refund, there was one time when the meter reader took wrong readings :(

So a mistake was made with a reading and it was refunded. Hardly a reason for taking umbrage - if it was a 'large' refund then the reason for the glitch would surely have been clear to the householders.

Not that the limitation of being stuck with one supplier due to fancy wiring is not irritating.

The overcharging spanned 6 years from the time they moved house and had the system installed so they didn't have previous years in this property to compare.

    Error spanning 6 years?
Only one actual meter reading that was taken in error during that whole period?

    Hmmm...
