Opportunity for improvement

One again I have my mother in laws laptop. I reckon I can keep hold until Saturday PM. It is a very slow 800mhz with 128mb.

What I have done.

Upgraded Norton Anti Virus (her choice;) ), had to download it on broadband as her dialup was going to take 19 hours:eek:

Fixed the upgraded version of Norton as there were known errors:eek:

Defragged her 8gb C driver. D is the unused other half of the 15gb drive, why it was split I don't know:confused:

Upgraded her modem driver, in the hope of a little more speed:rolleyes:

Switched of auto update for windows, now just a notify, then I can do it on broadband:j

Is there anything I can do to make it faster:o

Sell it and buy a new one :D
I know my mum's laptop is split into two partitions, I'm not sure if it's meant to be one for system/apps and use the other one for files/docs. Although the benefit of partitions is lost on me.
Maybe try increasing the RAM but don't go overboard as I'm guessing it won't make much difference after so much memory.

I'm not going to buy anything:eek: Just little tweaks;)

I know what you mean, I'm currently thinking of upgrading my desktop but as it's athlon xp I need to change motherboard which means pretty much changing everything. PC upgrading always reminds me of Trigger in Only fools and Horses, the scene where he talk about having the same broom for twenty years... he's changed the head 17 times and the handle 14 times!! :D

    Did you read my post:rolleyes:

If the Mother-in-Law is anything like my parents then she'll want things to stay as much the same as possible even if it's to her detriment. I've spent years trying to get my Dad to change email client from Pegasus even though it's pants and he constantly has problems with it.
