What should I do?

Hi All,
I am currently claiming ESA and going through the appeals process as I failed my intial medical. Since the claim began my DD has been officially diagnosed with Autism. We are claiming DLA for her and I think I would be entitled to carers allowance if I weren't claiming ESA. The thing is, I know ESA is very much aimed at getting claiments back into work, which is something I won't be able to do until my DD is in full time education of some sort, she is 3 at the moment so that won't be for a few years. Should I stop claiming ESA and claim carers allowance instead? If you are already getting DLA and not in employment/student is there any other reason they can turn you down? And will there be any penalties for me stopping my ESA claim during the appeals process?
Thanks
Charlie

A few more details would be needed to give a sensible answer.
Are you on contribution based ESA or income related?
Do you have a partner and if so do they earn over £100 pw?
Can you confirm that your daughter has an award of mid or higher rate care component of DLA?0
