Doubt if IE9 was pre installed as it's still a Beta version. Best to roll back to IE8 ( make sure installed by checking Add/Remove programs)

    To uninstall Internet Explorer IE9
The following instructions apply to both Windows 7 and Windows Vista.
    1. Click the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.jpg, type Programs and Features in the search box, and then click View installed updates in the left pane.
    2. Under Uninstall an update, scroll down to the Microsoft Windows section.
    3. Right-click Windows Internet Explorer 9, click Uninstall, and then, when prompted, click Yes.
    4. Click one of the following:
      • Restart now (to finish the process of uninstalling Internet Explorer 9, and restore the previous version of Internet Explorer).
      • Restart later (to wait until you shut down or restart your computer).

    Note

After you uninstall Internet Explorer 9 Beta, the previously installed version of Internet Explorer will be available on your computer. It is not necessary to reinstall.

You could just install Firefox, install flash for it, and use that for playing Bejewelled.

Best to get him to switch over to firefox. If he's old and uses IE he will probably end up with tons of viruses

So, How old do you have to be? I'm soon to be 59 and use IE8 but haven't got many viruses yet. Will I get lots after my birthday?
  • I'm over 70 and do not / never have [ since the days of the K5 ] had a Virus, but .. .. .. .. the IE8/9 Adobe flash player on Win7 - x86 advice is use a different browser

Rather the opposite I'd say, the majority of oldies, and I'm getting there, but I'm an exception, :), are afraid to touch anything in case it breaks.

As opposed to all the kids out there who click on anything that flashes or moves and says 'Click Here'.

Away from this forum are thousands, if not millions of households which have never heard of Firefox, and bumble on with a combination of IE/Fakebook/Hotmail/Norton/McAfee.
    Move along, nothing to see.

I've nothing against Firefox, it is a very good browser but, given that the op said "I'm not very bright with computers and neither is he", I would probably install Google chrome for him.
Flash and a pdf viewer are built in and updated automatically so he would always be running the latest and safest version.
