Getting Antiques valued

Sorry not sure where to put this post, so have put it here as it is related to homes, mods please move it if in the wrong place, thanks.
We are not sure where to start with getting antiques valued, they have been left to us by a deceased relative. There are quite a few items, including some large pieces of furniture, silverware, ornaments etc. How can we make sure we don't get ripped off as we don't have a clue about antiques. Any suggestions and advice really appreciated, thanks.

Yep, a local auction house should be your best bet. DO NOT invite any house-clearance company to come round as they will tell you that it's all worthless and they'll take the stuff off your hands and save you having to pay to send it all to landfill.
If something isn't worth much then list it on Freecycle.0 -
