Why cant I be bothered with Christmas this year.?

:eek::eek:
Whats up with me this year?
Cant be bothered to put the tree up ,couldn't wait last year cos my room was being decorated and it was taking too long. This year, nothing, not even feeling remotely Chrismassy.
My OH is the same every year, saying its only another day,but this year I think its the other way around,I cant be bothered to drag the box with the tree in down,it took me nearly 2 days last year to put it up and decorate.
I have rheumatoid arthritis and cant stand for long, but this year everything seems to be to much bother .
Dont even want to go out shopping, done most of the shopping online this year.
The weather recently has made me feel down, but why cant I drag myself back up?
Sorry for the winghing but I have no one else to talk to about this :D
Hope your all feeling more in the Christmas spirit,
XXX

  • Sounds like you're having a flare. See your GP/Rheumatologist and explain your symptoms.

Hiya Arty - I feel exactly the same, to be truthful.

Christmas tree is up and house is decorated. Presents all bought - but do you think I can be bothered to wrap. I will at some point but I think most of it will be in carrier bags if I don't get a move on.

I hope you feel a bit more Christmassy soon - I hope we BOTH do!

artydoll -don't worry, you're not on your own. I love making bits and pieces for pressies for people but when it comes to the actual ''doing christmas'' I get very stressed and can't wait till its gone. Always seems like everyone else is having a better time than we are if you know what I mean.
This year son, girlfriend and little grandson were coming for christmas  Panic.............how do I sleep them ? No spare double bed except bed settee downstairs and its not much good really -if son had that, grandson would be upstairs and probably wake in the middle of the night wondering where he was and fall downstairs looking for his mum........ Just got a new mattress for ourselves and kept the old one (just in case) and decided they can have that on the floor in one of the bedrooms and with a bit of jiggling of furniture grandson could sleep in the bed in the same room. I don';t have the panic of christmas day now (girlfriend is working) but they're coming up 23rd -going back 24th to exchange pressies.............so then I panic about food............do we have a christmas dinner when they're here ? If it were just us then we would and have whatever we wanted christmas day but we foster a teenager and he'll expect christmas dinner............well no way can we afford two turkeys
Oh dear...............sorry I have gone on and on..............didn't mean to.......was just trying to reassure you.
But honest, don't fret, it's just one day.....two if you count boxing day.
OH has hospital appt. on Wednesday -maybe I'll feel more like it then and next weekend I am going to put decorations up !!
Think half the trouble is it all starts so early in the shops now

    (Sorry for moan-hugs artydoll ((((((:o)))))) )

Oh artydoll I hope you feel more Christmassy soon. I'm a very Christmassy person usually but there was a Christmas a few years back where I just wasn't feeling it at all. I think I made it worse by trying to force myself into the Christmas spirit which didn't work. Try to stay positive, you don't have to put the decorations up, it'll still be Christmas. If your arthritis isn't too bad then getting out and about, even if it's just for a short amble with or without your OH, will help lift your spirits. Thinking of you and hoping you feel like humming a Christmas carol soon x
  • Sorry to hear you aren't feeling too festive, our family is very much the same at the moment.

I was feeling festive as I was sooo organised, and then the shops started stocking Christmas things which made me feel like I'm disorganised and having to rush around. It's mine and my husbands birthdays over the next week but unfortunately with hubby being made redundant (and not entitled to redundancy pay) we cannot afford to go out or buy each other presents. Christmas is the same but luckily I bought all of the kids presents during the year so they will know no different, and I managed to get some very cheap/free items from glitches on the grabbit board so we all have a few stocking fillers. Haven't bought any Christmas food yet as the bills have to be paid :(

In spite of all that we have put the tree up and some decorations to cheer us up with such a rubbish end to the year. Wrapped some presents earlier this week which cheered me up a little. I think a few days before we will be in he mood, counting our blessings and enjoying each other and seeing the smiles on the childrens faces :)

  • I do think it's very easy to underestimate how stressful the extreme weather conditions have been & the tiring effect it can have - for me it's been like I've had to concentrate carefully all the time I've been walking outdoors, add that to concern about others etc & it's very wearing.

I hope you feel reassured when you've see your GP, artydoll, and feel much better soon!

It sounds as though you have depression, maybe too tired, feel as though everythings too much of a bother, whats the point etc. I feel like that at the moment, maybe because in my head its a perfect christmas, but in reality, it never is as good as i think its going to be...!! there is too much hype in getting everything perfect, magazines, tv etc, and i think each year its getting more and more stressful.
