CO alarms and plug in air fresheners don't agree

I posted earlier about my CO alarm beeping even after I took it outside.
Anyway I sent an email to the manufacturer describing the problem and I got a telephone call from someone, can't remember her name.
First thing she asked was if I had any plug in air fresheners near the alarm.
I have one almost underneath the alarm.
She explained that some plug in air fresheners contaminate the sensor so I removed the air freshener, replaced the battery in the CO alarm, which had been sitting in my garage until I could get out to buy a new one and low and behold no problems.
So if your CO alarm starts beeping and you cannot find any fault with anything that might produce CO check that you don't have a plug in air freshener nearby.
