carry a spare set of gloves for the return journey if it's raining as most waterproof gloves, even £100 ones - aren't, the water always seems to find a way in. also carrier bags over your boots before you put on waterproof trousers/suit makes it easier and stops you tearing them - just don't forget to take the bags off again

    subscribing to thread.

I have failed my driving test too many times to mention and not being able to drive is negatively effecting my life in many different ways :(

However, from what I gather, you pretty much cant fail the CBT so at some point I plan to take that and then buy a 125 bike.

Will reference this thread in the future.

My most serious injury and still in evidence to this day, was the 3 rightmost fingers of my right hand the little finger being the worst affected, I was overtaking in the dark and a car wing mirror coming in the other direction hit my hand, smashed my little fingers top knuckle to bits, Dr said he thought I'd be lucky to re-gain any movement in that knuckle. As it turned out I re-gained full movement of the knuckle but it just looks a little mishaped. I had very good gloves on with good finger protection. How much worse it would have been with crappy skiing gloves?

Actually thinking about it, I think my gloves had finger padding on all fingers except the little finger, which might explain why the knuckles on fingers 2 & 3 remained intact, my finger nails got squashed on those two fingers but the bone was ok.

You can fail a CBT, My BIL had one lad crash into the back of him at the traffic lights whilst taking his CBT, Seems it wasnt
    the lads first fail either.

Danger to himself as the instructor put it.

    lol.
From what I gather you simply get asked to come back and do a little more practice and then you get your certificate...?....I dont think you have to pay again (but I could be wrong)

I've seen people driving with an L plate who obviously just got their CBT certificate, swerving a wobbling all over the road.

Despite being completely unable to pass my driving test (which has negatively affected my life more than people would know!) I actually feel very confident about passing the CBT.

Be nice not having to get public transport everywhere and replying on other people non stop...
  • Yeah, you will be fine mate - Ok it's noti mpssible, but very, very hard to be failed.

Attitude comes into it an awful lot, I know this because I spent a lot of time talking about it with my instructor for the full test (of course this is only based on her pass/fail rate but you get my point).

She told me that she can usually tell the failers very quick, not because of skill or lack of, but because the failers don't listen to what they're asked, and so they never improve.

This seems to be more the criteria they're looking for..
I did some utterly illegal things on my CBT, wrong way at the odd junction, 35 over a toblerone speed-hump, etc.. but in all those cases, I recognised the error when it was flagged, and was able to give a semi-coherent answer as to how I would avoid doing it again (in the case of the hump I just didn't see it in the dark, could have been a dying kid in the road for all I would have known).

It's a training session, not a test (CBT).

The objective is to train you up to the required standard to get your L-plates.
The objective is not to test you to see if you're *already* at the required standard.

A subtle, if very important distinction on the day. :)

best of luck fella, you'll walk it.

yep, you can't fail a CBT - its a course of training, however the instructor can call it off, which I don't think I ever did, but I did have a few pupils that took 2 or 3 sessions, one young lad took me about 7 or 8 sessions, although he struggled with learning difficulties I stuck at it because he had such a good temperament. had to keep going over and over things until it finally began to sink in, not the handling of the bike, but undertanding what to do on the road.
One very grateful and proud Dad when I gave his son his certificate, - he is stil riding now

My boss did call a CBT off, as his pupil simply didn't have the right atitude to learn, refused to listen so he gave her money back.
