PC Monitor Problem

Hi

Went to switch on my pc this morning, started up as normal but the monitor flashed on then switched itself off. When I switch the monitor back on the same thing happens. Cables are all fine. Has anyone any ideas what might be causing this and if it is possible to fix.

Thanks in advance

CRT or LCD monitor? VGA or DVI interface?

Are you sure that the PC is booting up, as the monitor will sometimes go into standby if it does not receive a signal.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

If you keep tapping the F8 key just after pressing the power button until you get the option to choose safe mode, and the PC runs the monitor in safe mode, then the graphics card drivers may need re-installing.

If you turn the monitor on just by itself and it still turns off, then it could be the monitor needs replacing

try a different monitor that you know is working, or another PC in your monitor. If your monitor works with another PC then it could be your PC thats having problems,
It could be your graphics card (if you have one) which means replacing it - or your motherboards onboard graohics card may have gone, which means you may need to install a graphics card.
Or your PC, like penrhyn said, may not be booting up. if the monitor cant detect a video input from the PC - it will go back into standby mode (turns itself back off)

Its an lcd monitor, vga interface.

I have checked it with another pc and it does the same so definately a monitor problem. I have taken the back off but it I cannot view the pcb (thought I might see a blown capacitor or something) but because of the way it has been manufactured I can only view the soldered side too many soldered wires to get access to the screws to undo it.
