Letting Agent in administration

I signed a letting agreement with ADS Lettings and moved in 3 weeks ago. They have just gone into receivership. Is my deposit safe, and where is it? How do I find out who the administrators are?

You can check whether your deposit has been registered with the three deposit schemes individually online. It's mydeposits, TDS & DPS.

Forum member tbs624 previously explained this about the three schemes:

"It is acceptable for the LL to physically hold the tenancy deposit even when the deposit has been scheme registered - only one of the schemes -DPS- requires that the deposit monies are physically paid over from the start of the tenancy. The other 2 - mydeposits and TDS - are insurance backed schemes."
  • In all cases the responsibility for registering your deposit in one of the three approved schemes ultimately rests with your landlord and they are the party who you will be seeking its return from. It's the landlord who has a contract with the agent, not you.

You can search for the property you rent on the deposit-protection schemes' websites. I think you just need to enter the post-code.

Of more pressing concern right now is who you should pay your rent to. I think you should contact your landlord right away and ask for their instructions.

No you didn't. You signed a contract with your landlord. The agent just facilitated and / or acted on the LL's behalf.

Contact your LL and ask which scheme HE has deposited your deposit in. HE is responsible.

    Seperately check each scheme yourself.
