    You have the right to refuse the LL entry to the property whilst you are away, you also have the legal right to change the main entry door/s locks. As a LL myself for very obvious reasons I avoid entry when tenant/s are not about.

    My only comment is that I would take photos of each room to prove no damage etc and sounds like you are very sensible to force having your deposit protected. Sounds like you are well shot of this LL!

  • If you are still concerned that he is letting himself in without you there and can't change the locks or anything, then why not leave a box or something just behind the door when you leave - if it has been moved when you get home, then someone has obviously been in and looked around - just remember that it's there for when you get home though!

    Check deposit not protected and then chase that up too.

    a hair or two sellotaped to the top of the door/jamb will tell you if anyone has been in while y ou were out
