You have the right to refuse the LL entry to the property whilst you are away, you also have the legal right to change the main entry door/s locks. As a LL myself for very obvious reasons I avoid entry when tenant/s are not about.0

If you are still concerned that he is letting himself in without you there and can't change the locks or anything, then why not leave a box or something just behind the door when you leave - if it has been moved when you get home, then someone has obviously been in and looked around - just remember that it's there for when you get home though!0

Check deposit not protected and then chase that up too.
Sounds like house going on market.0 -
a hair or two sellotaped to the top of the door/jamb will tell you if anyone has been in while y ou were out0
