Advice on changing bank account from Santander?

Good luck with your bank move!
Remember that for your FD account you can use HSBC branches to pay in money/cheques if you happen to have an HSBC branch nearby. If that's not an option you can ask FD to send you prepaid envelopes and paying in slips for paying in cheques.
Thanks - I was going to ask that question! I'm pleased I can pay in cheques at HSBC, luckily there is a branch at the town I work in so it shouldn't be a problem!'The journey home, is never too far...'

One last piece of information.
First Direct currently have a £100 switching incentive and an 8% regular saver which you might want to consider.

I did take advantage of the £100 switching offer and will look into the regular saver! I'm trying to fill my ISA up first however!'The journey home, is never too far...'

As far First Direct are concernced, can I get the £100 pounds if I don't fund it using my salary, but just transfer £1500/month from another account and then transfer it back out?0

Yes, it is also valid as long the £1500 come from a non-First Direct account (internal transfers would not count towards the £1500).

Telephone/online banking is the best option for me as I live fairly remotely with the nearest bank being about 25 miles away.!
Think I'm a little late in the day to contribute to this discussion, but Co-op and smile allow full access at post offices too (cash and cheque deposits, cash withdrawals). This has been great for me since Santander messed up what was Girobank (although A+L had done a pretty good job of ruining it before Santander got their hands on A+L)
Also, as Britannia Building Society members voted to merge with the Co-op bank, Britannia branches will become Co-op bank branches in the next couple of years and they are looking to open 100 new branches, too.0
