alpharooms - overbooking - and lies

Right here goes, i booked and paid for a room in tenerife for over new year (29th dec) back in june.

I've been to tenerife a lot of times, so i knew the apts and location.
Today i received a letter from alpharooms, stating that they would like to bring to my attention the following information

'We have received notification that due to an unfortunate early closure at the accommodation, we can no longet fulfil the reservation, as originally booked'

I rang alpharooms who told me that they had been informed that the hotel was closing for christmas/new year.............strange
Because 3 weeks ago i was in tenerife and called in to look at the pool area, and i spoke to reception and asked could i have a pool view room, the lady said it was to early to request this, and gave me their e-mail address and to send a e-mail 5 days before i arrive and they will see what they can do.

So i rang the hotel up in tenerife about 2 hours ago and spoke to the lady who deals with bookings, and guess what the hotel isn't closing for christmas/new year as alpharooms said.............surprised i'm not.
She also confirmed that alpharooms have in july booked 10 rooms for the hotel, even though they only had allocation for 5 rooms, so basically they have overbooked.

Now the letter did offer me alternative accommodation which they say is 2.5km away from my original booking, again i don't agree with this it's more like 5km away.

So i ring up alpharooms again, and ask them when did they receive confirmation that the hotel in tenerife was shutting they said, about 3 days ago, and they sent the letter out to me straight away.

So i drop the bomb shell, when i tell them i've rang up the hotel and spoke to trisha who deals with bookings and the hotel isn't shut and is open all through christmas and new year, and told them i knew about the 10 rooms they had booked..........

In the end they admitted it, to me, they then said that they will offer me alternative accommodation, and if it's different in price they will pay.
Problem is they only have 1 s/c accommodation in the area i want and it's cheap and nasty, and i wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, then the acommodation jumps up in price to the hotels, i've said i'd go r/o at a hotel, but they won't pay it.

They have just rung back and said that they will put us in a hotel b/b but they want us to pay an extra £150, which i won't pay, as 1 i've stayed at the hotel and it's location is right nextdoor to the veronicas area, plus the food was shocking.
So i'm not paying £150 for that privelage.

They have then said that they won't put us up an a hotel, as they've offered us alternative accommodation, yeah the only one that travelrepublic - lowcost holidays and other providers have left, and why is that cause it's s hite.

I think that they are only being ok with us, because they feel embarassed that they lied about the hotel being closed.

Any ideas

thanks

  • Well if that happened to me I'd be really outraged!

Have met people on holiday who booked with Alpharooms and raved about them, but then subsquently read some not so good reviews amongst good ones when I looked into them.

Not sure what to do but am feeling your anger.

    Thanks for those replies

spent ages last night searching for accommodation, but the same complex keeps coming up s/c, and like i said i know why, as it's not nice, it's a all inc place, which is known for it's rowdy nights, the pool is inbetween both buildings and gets no sunlight,
plus if i'd wanted this accommodation i could have booked it back in june and saved £100

I'm prepared at this late stage to put some money towards a decent hotel, but not an extra £150 to stay in the Tenerife sol, i've stayed here and had a room over veronicas, so no sleep, plus i wouldn't rate the food.

If i take the naff accommodatoion, i wouldn't be able to use the pool so that would cost me 9 euros a day for sunbeds.

i know i sound like i'm being picky, but it's because alpharooms said if it wasn't new year, and we'd had accommodation available you could have stayed in any of the s/c complex that we deal with, well the s/c complex's you have are sold out, because they are good, and the naff and too expensive are left.

    thanks

    Hi
Yeah i do have this option, but i only paid £350 for my accommodation back in june, now everything is coming out at over £500 for s/c at the colombus or over £750 for a hotel.

Does it say who is their supplier on the original hotel voucher?

    Hi
After a few phone calls backwards and forwards with Alpharooms, they have agreed to move us into accommodation a 10 mins walk from our booked hotel, and they have agreed that they will pay the extra cost themselves.

    so all sorted now, thanks.

I also had trouble with alpharooms. Booked Benidorm at a hotel we'd stayed in before and loved it - got an email 2 days before departure saying they could not now fulfil the booking. Offered me another hotel which we had little choice but to accept due to the lateness of the time.

The hotel was rubbish and miles from where we wanted to be, and the food was garbage too.

Best we could get out of alpharooms was 10% off a future booking

I had an issue with Alpharooms, email battle, even went to ABTA and Consumer Direct.... As of yesterday (been a month in battles), been offered a refund and my booking to be cancelled (there wording not the best!). Win win for the customers! :)

And Alpharooms mainly use lowcostbeds as its agent for rooms in Spain (TravelR and Lowcostholidays and Sunshine use them too)

I just came back from a 5-day break, we booked an apartment with Alpharooms and when we got there (and after they saw the booking had been made through Alpharooms..) we were told they had overbooking and were moving us to another one. The other one wasn't as good and I'm quite dissapointing with their service. I'm going to write a complaint letter but not sure if it's worth it? I don't think I will ever use them again...
