Go through insurance or not?

My partner was involved in an accident today where a cab pulled out of a side road as she was driving past and crashed into the side of her car.
He has admitted fault and we have his details and 2 witnesses.
Initially he said he didn't want to go through the insurance but his insurance company has since called but I haven't spoken to them yet.
We have never had to go through this before so not sure of the ins and outs of it all.
Our car is 10 years old and the repair would cost more then it's worth so I am assuming it will be written off.
We can't afford another car and would rather it was repaired.
What should we do?
If the cab driver agrees to pay for the repairs how will this affect our insurance?
Any other advice would be appreciated.

Would you buy a TV and never switch it on?
Speak to you insurer or broker. They get paid by you to sort this stuff out.0 -
Whether you claim from insurance or not, remember you will still legally have to declare the incident on future insurance quotes.0

As the accident was not your fault you may find that future premiums could be higher so when speaking to your insurance company, mention this and ask them to claim for additional costs.0
