The input costs these days are just a part of your energy bills. Other costs are rising rapidly and will continue to do so for at least the next decade. All those windmills popping up everywhere, and all the (not sure whether we're still in the hundreds of millions or billions yet) subsidies to make them profitable, all the free and cheap insulation and light bulbs, fits, and probably 30 or 40 other similar 'green initiatives' are these days simply loaded onto our energy bills. Wait till the gov go the goahead for billions to be spent on carbon capture, higher Roc prices etc etc. I'm afraid none of these things simply appear from thin air. The rediculous forced closing of a few big and efficient perfectly viable coal power stations will mean high costs (we're talking billions here) in their replacement, and decommissioning Nuclear, with several now nearing the end of their lives, will cost a few more trens of billions (and that is unavoidable, however many billions we pay for windfarms, solar energy etc etc).

So look at you energy bills only partly to pay for the gas and electricity, and a higher and higher proportion to pay for windfarms (and the enqiries/appeals/planning etc etc) and several other multi-billion pound 'initiatives' springing from 'green' ideology.
  • graham speaks the truth and the prospect scares the hell out of me. The problem with green energy is that it is very expensive and inefficient, it is more sustainable than fossil fuels in one way but not the other. We'll have a environmentally friendly way or producing power which almost nobody can afford to use.

Not sure if its relevent here but it has been claimed several times that we have the lowest prices in Europe. If this is true how does it square with the RIP OFF headlines?
