I'm amazed! Not much difference between Liverpool Uni and City Uni - who knew?
(Infact, when you look at the number of EU students with with high qualifications then City Uni looks much better.)
As the percentage of known grades is much higher at City than Liverpool, the figures may not be quite all that they seem.0 -

When I looked a bit closer the top Unis just seem to be reflecting the fact that they offer medicine and dentristy courses.
Still interesting though.0 -
i've read a few articles about it and i'm still no clearer on this cutting places malarkey, somehow based on this year's data only, in some complicated way to cut 'core' places..... i just don't understand how the system will work at all. it seems very complicated. is this going to be implemented for 2012 entry? seems very soon.:happyhear0

some new suggestions from Simon Hughes.....
not sure about how it would work to link scholarships to university to schools rather than unis, but i guess would improve access more directly? unsure.
some things may be good but i think careers advice in junior school is just plain wrong. can't we just them be kids and not push them towards a career that young?!:happyhear0 -

Might have been better if they hadn't dismantled the Careers Service and stopped offering any help to teenagers if they weren't in the NEET group!0 -

Article from The Telegraph. Lots of things in this article have been debated on this board before but I thought this bit was interesting as it tends to be totally ignored on MSEBut Push warned that the Government’s loans system would not cover the full cost of a three-year degree for many students.
According to its figures, a quarter of students’ debts are currently owed to sources other than the Government, including parents, bank overdrafts and credit cards.“The Government has failed to explain how debts of over £50,000 will not cripple graduates financially, particularly given that students will need to find a quarter of that money from outside the support of the official loans system.”

1/4 of student's debts are outside the SL system!?
I struggle to believe that! With around £20k of student loan debt (£6k each year as a minimum) that means there would be around £6k of debt outside of this for each person. Now I don't know every student out there.... but I don't know anyone whose racked up that much of debt outside of SL!0 -
Same research in a BBC Article:-Economic climate Push publisher Johnny Rich said he thought the projection had an error margin of about 10%, and was higher than he had expected.
This was partly because debts had risen faster than inflation in recent years, he said.
This may be the result of students struggling to find part-time and temporary jobs because of the economic climate, as well as rising costs of expenses, such as travel and energy, he said.According to the survey, average annual debt accrued by students currently at university varies widely across the UK, from £2,025 in Scotland to £6,231 in Wales.
Push said opportunities for paid work for students in Wales "appear to have dried up".National Union of Students president Liam Burns raised concerns about the extent to which students were using bank and credit card loans.
"The fact that the government thinks it's OK to hang an amount of debt equivalent to a small mortgage over someone's head while they study is one thing, but leaving young people reliant on commercial credit just to stay in education is scandalous," he said.
