I did want skype in the office, but the suggestion was declined.

And unfortunately ONW, students these days expect the moon on a stick. They can expect jobs all they want, but with no practical experience, they'll find it difficult to get any opportunity. On the other hand, we're currently taking trainees for general office stuff. But it's more about attitude to aptitude to an extent, we don't want people who feel they deserve the job, we want people who actually want it.

and you're surprised!? how many students don't know when they start to repay their loan under the current system, despite all the info they get?! they don't understand student finance because they don't engage with it at all. with the scare stories in the newspapers, all they hear are the big totals, nothing else. the staggering level of ignorance about student loans, by those who have them, means that i can't expect potential new students to have looked at it any further. a shame really.....

I'm amazed that someone who so obviously thinks they are super intelligent hasn't worked out how to use capital letters, such a shame really.....

All that education was so obviously wasted. :D :rotfl:

erm... ok.... more than slightly uncessary.

my point stands - there are posts almost daily on this board of students who don't understand key facts about their loans. it's a real shame and i don't know how to improve it.

rather than making petty attacks, how do you think we can improve the levels of financial illiteracy amongst students? or do you just want to turn discussion into personal insults?!

    *sigh*

Thousands of students kept in dark as they apply to Universities facing closure
Students are being left in the dark over seven at-risk universities which face closure.

Those applying for courses have no way of knowing if their chosen destinations are on the Higher Education Funding Council for England’s secret list of imperilled institutions.

Experts yesterday called for the list to be published for the sake of these prospective students, many of whom will face a lifetime of debt as the cap on tuition fees is raised to £9,000.

The register is said to include London Metropolitan University, which has announced it is to axe two-thirds of its courses. As a result, students on some 400 courses, including trade union studies, performing arts and humanities, will be forced to change subjects or move to another university.

The news has led to fears that the same fate could be suffered by the other six at-risk institutions. Three of these are believed to be the University of West London (formerly Thames Valley University), the University of Cumbria and the University of Gloucestershire.

His call follows the finding of a National Audit Office review panel into higher education which recommended the publication of the list.

Margaret Hodge, chairman of the panel, said: ‘The Funding Council is not transparent enough about its risk assessments of individual institutions.

‘Students deserve to know if the place they choose to study at has a high risk of failing, particularly in the brave new world where the student holds the purse strings.’

Yesterday a spokesman for HEFCE said it would ‘carefully consider’ the recommendations, but added: ‘No decision will be made until the publication of a review of higher education finances by the Public Accounts Committee.’

i'd understood that even though courses were being cut at london met, they would only apply to new applicants, but it appears not (from a variety of sources - i checked as i don't think the daily mail fact check particularly well!). i feel bad for the students but also for the hundreds who will lose their jobs.

(i also can't see how the at-risk list only has seven unis on it, but that's not the point....could it be the same list that was named last year with four unis and three colleges?

blimey, ignore list is added to.
(but for moneysaving, the info is out on the web about correct grammar and punctuation for free, but i appreciate the help. but glad you feel big and clever. you still look like a fool!)
ETA to irony of being told off for lack of capital letters from someone whose username is all lower case isn't lost on me ;)
