I have hacked a load of old plaster off in the kitchen and exposed pained brick I have removed any lose or damaged paint but to get it all off would be a nightmare.

How best can a prep the wall?

scratching it all, to give it a key should suffice.
make your own scratch tool from a bit of wood with some nails knocked through.

no its not common, cause painted brick is not common. esp oil based paint.
basically plasterers will plaster over just about anything!

PVA it. Some use SBR. You can also buy brush on keying agents.

I would love to as this would also square the room up nicely! The issue is the room is a very small kitchen.

We have had to hack the old plaster of back to the brick to have any chance of ir fitting!!

I reckon we will need to rethink though once the room has been leveled!

We just can't lose the space that boaring and battons would use.
  • hi dave 82.

no need to use battens. if the walls are sound the plaster boards can be set straight on to the walls using adhesive.
you could use 9.5mm taper edged plasterboard. plasterboard adhesive is normaly used to fix the boards to the wall, but i dont know wether the paint remaining on the walls would affect the adhesive qualaties of the adhesive.

i would suggest that using gripfill /evobond might be a better option.
