TV reception query.

Had a new aerial socket installed in our bedroom so we now have two aerial sockets running off our external aerial. Downstairs TV works fine.

Bought a new TV for bedroom, freeview built in but it keeps saying no signal, have tried a signal booster to no effect, the best I have managed by tweaking the aerial lead is to get 8 channels with v v poor reception.

I am consdiering trying a new signal booster as the one I have is quite old but any other suggestions as to why my signal should be fine downstairs but not upstairs.

I have tried the downstairs TV upstairs, without a booster you dont get all the freeview channels but with the booster its fine.

Could it be the new aerial socket is dodgy and the quality of the TV will depend on whether it picks up a decent signal or not?

Get the person who installed the socket back to fix it!
If they have used a passive splitter then you will get half the original signal to each set, normally an active splitter would be used to improve the signal strength.
Don't waste you money on amplifiers, you need to find out whats wrong first.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • Had a similar problem myself. My external aerial came into the house and went into a 4 way splitter. I connected both the DD bedrooms off it and had two 'spare' positions. When we updated the kitchen we fitted a tv to the wall in there so i ran another line off it to the tv but could only get BBC channels and nothing else. Eventually identified that because i did not use a good enough quality cable and the signal losses due to using a splitter meant the signal was very very weak. I fitted a booster to the Kitchen feed only and now it works fine and can get all available channels.
Politicians and diapers have one thing in common. They should both be changed regularly, and for the same reason.

Who fitted it? Did they test it? If not, why not?

Do they guarantee their work? If not, why not? If they do, get them back to fix it.
