Please do you know where I can get this type of insurance?

Hi
I'm flapping now as it's taking me hours to work through Moneysupermarket to find out who does this kind of insurance (if anyone actually does). I would really appreciate advice from anyone who knows about this.

Can I get insurance that would replace loss of earnings if my return flight is delayed and I have to take unpaid leave of absence as a result? I teach so can't do flexitime etc. My DH is having to go on business at Christmas on very short notice and his firm will pay for the insurance so cost isn't an issue. I'd also be looking for a generous baggage allowance - just in case (groan).

Thanks

Even if you could get insurance for consequential loss of earnings, there may be an excess on this risk, there may also be small print that says you would have to pursue your rights in EU regulation EC261/2004 and the Montreal Convention against the airline before submitting a claim.

I'm not aware of any such policy. If there is one you'd get it through a specialist insurance broker - unlikely to be sold online

perhaps it might be better to search for a policy that will offer a generous level of cover under 'Flight Delay', however all the policies i have used in the past have had very limited cover under this section, but you might be lucky.

  • Thanks both. Looks like it might be easier to get the company my DH works for to stump up for that then. I think they'll be ok to do that so I'll just go for a straightforward policy. Are some better payer than others if there's bad weather?

  • We're going to NZ. DH's firm are looking for flights as we speak. He will travel tomorrow. We will join him in a few days, then he comes back after us in January.

if they get you on a carrie like Air NZ, i don't think that there will be much of a problem, as that is their flagship route, and Heathrow stayed open during the snow period, however as in life, unfortunately nothing is gauranteed.

Just bear in mind that if it is the route through USA, an ESTA will probably be needed.

BTW AirNZ flights via Hong Kong don't need an ESTA.

  • Thanks Richard. I think at this late stage we won't get much choice of route/ carrier. I'd prefer Air NZ but we have to take what we can get.
