help with mp3 player pls....

Hi,
I'm having some trouble with an mp3 player I just bought - don't know if anyone has any ideas..
basically, everything's fine (music is on there, it switches on, so I guess the battery's loaded up). The problem is that when it's not connected to the computer and is switched off, it won't switch on again.
I've already been back to the shop and got another one, so I don't think it's that it's broken. They advised to make sure that the player was on "on" when it's connected to the computer and charging (we'd already done this anyway).
Sorry, the manual is absolutely incomprehensible and I can't find help with it on the internet. (Marquant MMP3-39)
