useless A & L interest rate

Alliance and Leicester appears in many tables (and has appeared on this site also) as the top current account because of their high - no strings - interest rate on their Premier Direct account.
However, if you are an existing customer with this account, you get 3.75% on this self same account rather than the 6.10% advertised.
I have asked and asked again and again why I get this rate and where it is advertised that the higher rate is only available to new customers - and I struggled for weeks to get any reply at all - and now I just get evasive answers!
I have been a customer for over 25 years and all they tell me is that it is a special offer and that I benefitted from a previous offer. So?? Does it say anywhere that as an existing long-term customer, one can only benefit from one offer ever?
I am not getting anywhere and have now suggested that I shall take my account away and that I am going to publicise this matter (as I am doing right now)...........
Perhaps Martin should revise previous recommendations re Alliance and Leicester??

Alternatively just obey their clearly stated offer terms and conditions:To be eligible for Premier Direct Current Account at a rate of 6.10% AER fixed until 31.12.07: applicants must not currently hold a Premier Direct Current Account and applicants must not have held a Premier Direct Current Account in the three months preceding a new Premier Direct Current Account application.

They aren't hiding it. Many banks do introductory offers. Live with it or move on and come back later if you want.

why would they give you more interest?
they already have your money...
How can you be so Naive?
As Martin says, this is a battle.. a war...
Producer vs Consumer. If you want the higher rate, close your account and then come back to them.
They see that they have had you for 25 years. You clearly aren't someone that cares about getting the best deal, or if you are, up till now, you haven't been showing it.
Stop complaining, and do something about it. Switch account!0 -
Don't moaned switch account and do it!0
