Been having problems with my computer for ages now - mainly start up/shut down probs. Had a couple of 'hardware failure' blue screens intermittently too - just for good measure.
Never could work out quite what the problem was, so did a full format and reinstall of all software. It still isn't quite sorted. My system dates from 2002 so all components are probably getting on a bit. The latest problem is that the monitor has started going wierd at times now, going through a green tint, blue tint and back to normal! Anyone know if this is the start of either the monitor or graphics card failing? Or could it be anything to do with the replacement cheap power supply I installed last year! (Levels seem ok - 12v fluctuating slightly but all within limits) I've checked cables and they're all fine. Just need a point in the right direction if anyone has experience of this.

have you bent any pins in the vga cable (either end)?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

I haven't removed the VGA cable in months. It's screwed tight onto the back of the base unit - so it can't be loose. I only pulled out and refitted the power cable to the monitor - that seemed to cause a teeny bit of faint high pitched squealing when it came back on if I remember rightly now!Money can't buy you happiness, but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery.

try unscrewing both ends, and check inside for any bent pins. It can sometimes be too tight..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Had a look, everything was OK. Still puzzled. Screen played up for a while last night but on a restart it was OK. I hate intermittent faults.

Need to wait for something to go bang!:eek:Money can't buy you happiness, but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery.

Sounds like either the monitor or graphics card.
I binned a monitor that had an intermittent fault, it doesnt display said fault on this TFT unless I up the colour temperature setting, then it does.
(So, my graphics card is knackered and I spend £180 on a TFT (good few years ago))0 -
Sounds like either the card or monitor on it's way out. Drop the colours to the lowest level you can tolerate for now.
Try a borrowed monitor and see if that sorts it.0 -
If you aren't too worried about the consequences, try bashing the monitor hard on the top surface with the flat of your hand. Sometimes that removes a colour tint (has worked for me for periods varying between days and weeks, mainly on old 21" CRT monitors). Other times it just hurts your hand...
