Adding Toilet to house

Thanks for all the helpful comments. To clarify a few details;
- do we need a second loo? Not yet with young kids but will do in the near future
- if we install loo downstairs, we'd combine the separate upstairs wc/bathroom turning old toilet room to laundry room (dryer, washing machine etc)
- we are in the house for the long haul.
- macerating/pumped toilets don't seem to have good reviews and as far as I'm concerned will avoid them.0 -
Why would you want to do the washing up in the downstairs loo?I have one pet hate however, toilets without a sink in them.

In that case I would provide a loo downstairs and knock the bathroom upstairs into one (or convert the toilet to a laundry room).
You will find you use the downstairs one a lot with young kids as you have friends with youngsters over - ours gets used all the time, and its nicer to keep the one upstairs as a family bathroom for your own exclusive use.
I would avoid macerators too - the only one I have experienced was very noisy, as well as reported unreliability problems - you can't always control what gets put down the loo.0
