  • Well, as I said I can be controversial, and I hope no offence was taken. As with everything, this is how I work and I understand it's not right for everyone. I am very strict and some people will never agree with my way of working. And that's fine :D

Reading your last response I would suggest that in order to meal plan that works for you and you situation, is to write a meal plan of 8 meals which are nutritionally balanced for your son's dietary requirements, but do not assign days to them. Shop around these meals to bring down your costs. The meal plan can be done by all the family in order to give inspiration.

Then the day before (or even on the day) ask your son what meal he would like to eat from the list, giving him the choice and getting him involved. The reason I suggest 8 meals, is so that there is always a choice on the last day... just in case you don't fancy something.

When you are low in inspiration, I find my 'food list' helps me. In January this year I started a list, it has multiple headings 'beef, pork, chicken, vegetarian....' and I list my meals under each... now I have 250+ meal ideas on mine, which helps with inspiration!

I realise this isn't for everyone, but I now balance the types of meat eaten in 1 week, and never have the same meal twice in 6 weeks (that's me, and i'm not normal)!

The point I was trying to make is that by listing your meals, you have more choice, because last year we were eating spag bol weekly!

Also we have 'Fish Night' on Tuesdays. The family doesn't eat a lot of fish, so this is how we make it more fun. TBH my 8 year old normally chooses the menu on fish night because of the title he thinks it's the best night of the week! We end up with HM tuna pizza and pizza Baguettes quite often!

With Regards to the nursery, I would sit down with them for a talk, they do have an obligation to ensure your son's dietary needs are seen to. I am sure they are a good nursery, maybe if you pack a bag of 'snacks' then if he is hungry outside of snacktime he has something.

I can see why you would be worried when he cannot take multivitamins.

    Hope I helped!

  • hehehe no offence was taken, i was just trying to explain a bit about us (harder to do on typing than face to face, as i do write 'dry' if that makes any sence?)

8 meals sounds like a plan, i might try and get started this weekend.
I think my main problem (other than diet) is lack of time, during the week i only have roughly 60-90 mins, and at the weekend we are really busy too, but can be a bit more flexable

Thanks for all your suggestions ;)

Same here! I find my Pressure Cooker Invaluable, and my Slow Cooker is good too! I can bulk make Spag Bol from scratch in 30 minutes, it'll feed 8 - 10 people, takes 20 minutes in the pressure cooker (which is like an hour on the stove) and while it's cooking I make HM Garlic Bread and a Salad (Lettuce and Grated Carrot).

    I Love to freeze leftovers.

Monday - Friday all my meals can be made in around 30 minutes while doing spellings with my son for His Homework!

Most things that take time on the stove take 15 - 30 minutes in a Pressure cooker, and cheap cuts of meat will taste really good. I make soups, curries, chillies, Spag Bol, Stovies, rice, veg etc etc in it!

With the Slow Cooker, it can be preped the night before and then turned on in the morning and allowed to cook all day :D

I also make HM Soup Packs (Mixed Chopped Veg) and they are great because then you don;t have to prep anything, just bung it in the PC/SC with stock and Meat and Seasoning.... and you have dinner! :T

  • I have a slow cooker, but im wary of leaving it on all day and it burning my house down (i live in a wooden house!) if we're out.
i might have to look into a pressure cooker.

I am weary myself about it, and don't use it as much.

I also find the PC makes the meat softer anyway... I LOVE mine!

It saves me £10 a month on my butchers shop, as I am using cheaper cuts.

using this website I can further cut that now :D
