You can't say that the quote is ridiculous without knowing the full facts - what is the postcode where the insured lives, which model vehicle is it, whether there is a voluntary excess, occupation, level of cover etc. etc.
You are making a sweeping statement based on your own experience which is irrelevant to the other person.
The insurer he is with, simply may not want to insure inexperienced drivers, so loads up the terms for this, which they are entitled to do. Insurers may also change their underwriting terms from month to month and what they did two months ago in terms of risks underwritten may no longer apply.
OP - you may just have to bite the bullet and keep paying for 6 months to get a year's bonus and also to avoid cancellation charges.
However if you feel that you have been discriminated against (e.g. if the quote for a driver with a full licence held for 2 months of same age is loads more) then you could try asking for your case to be reviewed. However you will need proof so if you get this from the online system then make sure you take screen prints every step of the way.0 -

Insurers underwrite car insurance according to risk, hence the difference in pricing.
With regards to the the issue of Prov/Full Licence, I have a personal issue with this. On the basis that a provisional licence holder is likely to pass their test at some point, possibly soon, I feel that insurers should be obliged to point out the difference in premium in advance.
It does seem that certain insurers do take advantage of this situation.0 -

who are you with?? i had my renewal and for third party fire and theft it worked about at 770 and im 24 and drive 1.2 corsa.344 A MONTH?!?! I had to read that twice to check I had it right! That is ridiculous!!! I am 22 and I have a 1.6 litre car and pay just over £450 a year! I know I am female but it shouldn't make that much of a difference surely? I agree with Quentin and would get a settlement figure from them to see if you can change insurers. Tesco are the best for insurance atm in my opinion!

if you insure as a learner its cheaper as you have to have an experienced driver as a passanger to give advice etc to you but once you pass you dont have to have an experienced driver as a passanger so the cost will go up as you dotn have anyone giving advice to you
as to why its over £300 a day i cant answer, do as newbie says and see if the price comes down

My issue is I don't see how over a year where you spend some of it as a provisional driver and some as a full driver how it works out more expensive than someone insuring the car as if they had passed their test that very day.0 -

Because you're over a barrel.
You can cancel, pass a massive fee, and lose the first years ncd you would have had, or you can pay the exorbitant price to change with your existing company.
If you thought this cost is high, wait until you get your first renewal offer, and compare that to a quote from gocompare!0 -
Yeah I guess I just don't really think this is a correct way to conduct business and as such a consumer should be protected against such things.0
