Structural Survey costs? quoted £500 + VAT

Stuck at work with no phone access, but trying to do as much reseach as possible!
Had an offer accepted today, house needs quite a bit of tlc including full gas central heating and rewiring etc.
I did manage to get one quote for a full structural survey and it was £500 +vat.
It has a living room/kitchen/bathroom downstairs and three bedrooms upstairs, with lots of parking and very large garden.
Does this seems reasonable?
Are there likely to be any hidden extras?

Was a 40 a day smoker for 20 years.
Decided to give up, and haven't had a fag for 12 years.
Halfway through losing six stone.
Looking forward to early retirement.

Sounds cheap for a full survey. Whether that should be read as "cheap" being a bargain, i.e. snap their hands off, or that "cheap" might mean a shoddy company/report, I can't say...Act in haste, repent at leisure.

I paid £550+VAT for mine. Most are quite desperate for work and are quoting very competitively.
I got a good survey pointing out several issues I came back the seller on and got fixed. I got more off the house than the survey cost, so it was a worthwhile investment. (that was a full structural I had...)Tim0 -
Forgot to say it was an empty semi detached.

This does seem pretty cheap, it depends what you get for your money. A basic home buyers survey can cost a fair bit, if that picks anything up then you're usually advised to take full structual. I'm no full expert mind as I'm in hte process of buying my first property!0
