Debtline have been contacted and they have given very helpful advice about the 12 yr period. It seems the last time i actually paid anything towards the mortgage is the start of the 12 yr period so I am in with a chance of getting this debt statue barred so off i go to the post office today to send my letter recorded delivery. I'll let you allknow how it goes..and thanks to everyone who has taken the time to post...have a lovely xmas everyone and hopefully good news i the new year ay!!!

Good news michelle. Let us know how things progress once you have sent that letter.
Merry christmas to you as well!A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Sounds hopeful Michelle - did they say anything about the 6 year after sale of the house part, or was this after Feb 2000? Still not sure about that 'they tried to contact you' part. Have you checked the registrytrustonline site to see if there was a CCJ?
Sending the letter sounds like a good move and even if it isn't statute barred, this would not count as an acknowledgement of the debt. Most SB templates have "I do not acknowledge any debt to you or any other company or organisation that you claim to be representing" at the top just to make doubly sure. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91
Dad Gift 6k ¦ Savings & Inv Tst: £2,500
Loan 10k: £0 ¦ Dad 5.5k: £2,270 ¦ LTSB: £0 ¦ RBS: £0 ¦ Virgin £0 ¦ Egg £0
Total Owed: £2,270 (+6k) 11/08/20110 -
Been on the trust site george payed my £8 and got my report..Surprise surprise no ccj!! I dont know what they are playing at but it is a lot of money so I think they are going to try and get it if they can. I'm a bit more confident after speaking to debtline they are very well informed and the lady kept double checking everything to make sure the advice she was giving was correct which was reassuring. There is a lot of conflicting advice I guess because there are a lot of grey areas in this situation but the more forums like this are there to help people like me then the better informed people will get i suppose. I feel confident already to give advice on similar situations on this forum because I was scared to death when I recieved this letter and if I can make somebody feel a little less scared then its been worth all the hassle. I am by no means out of the woods yet but I know I cant go to prison for this and that in itself is reassuring. I am actually going to have a stress free xmas and I'm not going to give them the satisfaction of ruining my xmas for me or my family and I urge everyone in this situation to get the right advice from the right people BEFORE they get in touch with these horrible sharks. Merry Xmas to each and everyone of you lovely people.:j0
