Office 2007 or 2010?

I had bought 2003 but my firm installed Office 2007 for me. My laptop has crashed and I've had to have a new hard drive fitted so no longer have anything on it. I've reinstalled 2003 since I had the disk but most of my files are in 2007 and are now showing as 'read only'. Looks like I'm going to have to buy either 2007 or 2010 and since I'm not working now could do without the expense.
Does anyone know where I can get the cheapest from and if I buy 2007 will I upgrade it or should I just buy 2010 - any help would be much appreciated.

For the time being just download Open Office, its free and compatible with word and excel!

You can work with files that are in the newer 2007 format if you install this add-on:

Or there is Open Office's offshoot LibreOffice.0
