CCCS Debt Remedy

Sorry if this question has been asked before, but I am a newbie to the board.

I was wondering if anyone has used CCCS Debt Remedy before? My partner & I have unfortunately got in a lot of debt over the years (we were young & stupid with credit) & would like to sort it out ASAP. We have 3 children so any spare money goes on them.

The payments we are currently paying for our debts are too high & we need some help to lower the payments.

Thank You in advance.

  • The CCCS Debt Remedy tool on their website is great. At the end of it you get a downloadable booklet with their possible solutions for you and a budget sheet. What I found helped with them was to use the Debt Remedy so I had a copy of my advice in front of me, then I rang them to discuss it with somebody over the phone. Because I knew exactly where I was with money (thanks to the debt remedy tool) it was just a case of going through it more in depth and deciding on a course of action. If you are wanting your payments lowered and you still have money available at the end of the month after everything has been bought or paid for (not including you debt repayments), a Debt Managment Plan would possibly be the way to go. I would certainly ring CCCS, National Debt Line, or Payplan and ask about setting a DMP up (make sure to use one of these are their services are free).
I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.

    Hi and welcome

CCCS are one of the places that MSE recommend you seek advice. The debt remedy tool is very useful as a starting point to give you an idea as to what solutions might suit your circumstances. But it does only give a guide, before you could make a decision about what route to take then you would need to have a telephone interview with CCCS as well.

Have you completed the debt remedy? what possible option did it give you? If you are considering a DMP then you could not do better than to talk to CCCS, they will advise whether its suitable for you, explain the implications of a DMP (to your credit file etc) and help you calculate a realistic budget.

It might also be worthwhile you completing a statment of affairs using this link - http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html and posting the results on here. This will enable people to suggest areas you could possibly make some savings/money saving tips etc. And to see what debt solution might suit your circumstances.

  • Thank you so much for your replies.

I haven't had a good look at the site yet, me & my partner will be having an in depth look when the children are in bed tonight. We're going to go through all our paperwork & find out the actual figure we both owe so then we can make a start in seeing what our options are.

I've been reading through this site & looks like I will be here very often. There are lots of tips on how we can manage our money & to save.
