I have a laptop and desktop and have figured out a method of synchronising emails-IN (by keeping them on the server for 7 days - this gives me time to log in to both and ensure that both are kept up to date) - however is there a simple method of synchronising emails SENT - without an exchange server ?

You would have to use IMAP rather than POP3 and sync the sent items folder - it should work. Or just BCC yourself on outgoing mail.

Thanks - a good idea about BCC the outgoing - but IMAP is worth looking at too

IMAP is the best method but it basically means the server will hold onto the emails instead of downloading them to your computer. You will need to make sure you have sufficient space on the server or delete unwanted emails.

You could in the future add more devices (like your mobile) to your email account and be sure that they are all up to date :)

I already use my mobile and have it set up to display received emails as per my original question
Thanks IMAP appears to be my best solution

I assume that I simply have to set the mail servers to IMAP from SMTP and POP ?

I have set the incoming server from POP3 to IMAP
The outgoing server is still set to SMTP - it doesn't like IMAP !!
Is that all that I have to do ?
on both my PC's and mobile phone ?

IMAP or POP3 is for incoming mail only, leave the outgoing mail set to SMTP. You may need to tweak some settings for IMAP, but depends if your email host has special ports etc - trial and error really.
