Waiting for January or spring?

I have read quite a few posts from people who say they are waiting until January to reduce the price of their property, or put it on the market. For people who are doing this, when in January will you do it?

Will you update the price or put it on the market as soon as the EAs open after the New Year bank holiday? Or wait until later in the month?

Also, are many people holding on til spring to put their house on the market, or reduce the price? If so, what kind of time are you thinking

  • Hi Catatonia,

I had my place (in Leicestershire) on the market last year, and to be frank it's price was toppy, in what is a poor market. I took the house off the market in November, with the intention of re-launching in the spring.

Price wise, I'm going to knock off another 4% when it goes back up (probably mid february), and if there is no interest, I'll chop another 5% off when the clocks change (March) and follow the prices around from there.

I hassen to add, I'm moving to trade up, no mortgage etc, so it's all about the differentials rather than the absolute price (if that makes sense)

    Luck.. Pete
  • So, all buyers in Leicestershire, you know you can knock 9% off at least one property...!
Act in haste, repent at leisure.

Thanks Pete, that's interesting that you're waiting til Feb to re-market. Hope you get a buyer quickly!

Anyone else got any opinions on this?

We're waiting to see how things go in the New Year - so no price change on 1st January, we'll wait a few weeks and see how things are looking, which realistically probably means we won't make any changes before February.
