make some extra income and have fun

2 years ago i opened an ebay account and started visiting local car boot sales and charity shops for at least 1 hour per week....I bought things i liked and that i knew a little about...listed these on ebay when listings are FREE.

So far have made a profit of £4700 and have used this to pay of credit cards, buy gifts, pay grocery bills, purchase a car and learn what to buy and what will sell for a good profit by experience, books and watching others on Ebay......

You can do the same....i get a great buzz when i make a sale and can use some of that profit to improve my financial standing......The longer i have been doing it the more i have learnt. The most i have made on buying and selling one item is £147 for a ship decanter by Waterford which i bought for £2....

If i can help or offer any advice to get you started please feel free to contact me...i have a great time and financially much better off...Think what you could do for yourself......Question please......

How often are the free listing days?

Also, how do you know your not just wasting your cash on the stuff at the Car Boot or Cahirty shops? Surely there a lot of junk to sift through?

I'd be interested in doing this as I get 1 weekend every four months I have nothing to do but worry I dont have enough cash!

That is indeed an excellent money making opportunity. I have also been thinking of doing but for some reason I couldn't get it started. Anyhow, it would be a big help if you can also post some tips on what items sells fast and how and where to look for the best deals. :)

    Thanks :)

If you're buying items and re-selling on E-Bay with the intention of making a profit you need to bear in mind that this is taxable income and needs to be reported to HMRC, with all the consequent requirements of self assessment, paying tax & NIC, record keeping, abiding by time limits etc. The penalty system has also changed recently (become more harsh) for non-disclosure / under-reporting.

One of my neighbours has just been done for exactly this.

Be very careful, they have dozens of ways of catching you out especially if they get wind of it then they go throuhg all your finances, bank statements, credit card statements, if yu get benefits they stop immediatley till you have been investigated.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Can I please just add my voice to the 'tax' debate. If OPis using free listing days then they are not registered correctly on ebay as a business as business sellers cannot use FLDs. That's as well as any issue with tax and nI and yes, people get caught all the time I get contacted by at least one a month including one who got turned into the benefits people and suffered quite a lot of stress and unpleasantess because of it.

AS long as you are able to understand the tax and NI issues and get registered then this is a great idea, I make enough to pay for several very good holidays a year and enjoy myself a lot. I don't car boot though as I prefer not to get up at 5am (eek!) but basically I buy things and resell them on ebay.

Hadn't seen in the forum rules about not having a company name. Now removed. Thank you for pointing it out.

You shouldnt really use your company name as your forum name either.

Hi. This is something I have done for years, to be honest, but not so much since my Daughter was born 4 years ago. The thing is, everybody wants something as one man's junk is another man's treasure. I did it for a hobby more so than anything, buying something so I could research it, then sell it
I'm back after a break :money:
  • i just made £72.50 on ebay selling junk i was about to throw out and give the chairty shop as ebay had a free listings weekend i took advantage of.
  • I am in a similiar position (being asked for information from Taxman).., is there anywhere I can go for advice.., I didn't make much if any profit but will have difficulty proving it due to paperwork disappearing during a relationship split up?
