I hate these types of companies but >>> aint there always a but

If say my dog needed treatment and there was no insurance ( or there was and it did not cover the problem) and I was 7 days from payday, if I go overdrawn on my account I have to pay £30 plus they also pull the overdraft thingy and I have to reapply and go through the whole thing again ( got a nationwide repayment overdraft jobby)
If I use one of these companys and pay it back on payday I pay less then the overdraft charges.

This only works though if it can be paid back in FULL and with no problems. I have never used one of these lot but would if it meant it was cheaper for me and I was 100% sure I could pay it back.

It cannot be a "fraudulent" debit card issue; its a new debit card with a new number etc as my old one expired at the end of Nov but the account numbers would be the same; I am quite sure it's a mistake. Still no contact from Wonga so when I have a free half hour I'll call my bank at some point today. I have already moved the money into my savings account to keep it away from my usual spending.

As it was paid by BACS can they simply recall the payment or as they have the account details set up a direct debit to take payments etc???

AFAIK: Wonga can't "recall" the payment. They claim their repayment via debit card - not direct debit.

And you DO NOT want them having your valid debit card details for too long...unless you are very brave

Thats a cool money in your account. :) I would suggest you to call them because once they start charging the interest, then it would drive you bad.

And Cool Spam too Jess - great English by the way

My Wonga loan from August only shows on my CallCredit report - both credit search and settled account. No trace of either on my Experian report ;)

    Hi
I just want everyone to be aware that Wonga are to be avoided. My son took out a loan with them much to my horror. He asked to use my debit card to make a payment, then he would give me the money which he did. To my horror my son must not have paid them back and they have since taken £247.76 out of my card. This leaving me short of money for xmas. Ok £6.00 left in bank NOT GOOD. The Card Fraud said that Wonga had kept my details and company's like this can do that so not a Fraud case. I was told to phone Wonga (who charge £1.50 a min ) I was also told that as it was my sons debt Wonga would not discuss it with me. I am left high and dry now so please beware folks.

It sounds like your son is the one to be avoided based on that.

I phoned my bank last night who was as useful as a chocolate tea pot. Its my fault that I gave them my card details apparently; so after requesting to talk to someone who would actually listen to the words I used I was told that they cannot stop monies going into my account but ask my branch in writing anyway and see what they can do and as to preventing money going out, Wonga cannot just take money from my account but to be sure they do not have my card details I should close my bank account and open a new one (but they cannot help in transfering DDs etc so that's all time I dont have!) They cannot block them as nothing has been set up from Wonga so there is nothing to do there. Oh, and Wonga cannot recall the payment.

I have managed to find Wonga's company listing and a landline phone number attached so will call that later on today.

I will not permit them to have my card details to repay etc. The best they will get will be a cheque.

Wonga didn't do anything wrong - they just tried to reclaim the money owed to them - in the way described in their terms and conditions as your son will have signed up to... Nothing fraudulent with Wonga's actions.

As for their number charging £1.50 a minute, that's completely untrue. If you look on their website, they state:
Alternatively you can call our customer care team on 0871 288 5704, or our collections team on 0844 842 9109, during office hours (calls cost 10p per minute)

As you willingly gave your son your card to use, then you have no come back on anyone. I would suggest keeping a closer eye on what your son uses your card for in future.

As Wonga won't discuss your son's account with you, how about you discussing it with your son? Sounds like the most logical thing to do.
