Hi guys

What bit of my laptop deals with recognising & getting info from USB Card Readers?

& how do I find out what particular driver I need.

Thanks

Ooo. Its has XP installed but that is as much as I know about the insides.

XP shouldn't need any drivers for generic USB card readers. What problem are you having?

I was looking for an all singing & dancing reader with a sim card slot.

Couldn't find the whole thing without spending £30ish & thought I would buy a cheaper Sony thing & a separate dead cheap SD & SIM reader.

Got the dead cheap thing today & XP isnt recognising anything at all.

The mini disc that came with it comes up as 98 or 2000 but the packaging says XP & VISTA also.

    I posted about this yesterday.

I've recently been shown a cheapo one from ebay, the micro sd reader works but the sim reader is duff. XP, Win 7 and various Linux distos won't recognise it.
I bet it was under £5, they're imported in thir '000s from China (?) and QC is sadly lacking.
    Move along, nothing to see.

They should work the same as a USB stick (pen drive) and show up as an external disk - if it isn't picked up by XP (without drivers) it's a dead 'un.

    Thanks.

Just tried about 6 different SD cards in it & none worked.

I always buy my card readers from 7dayshop.com, long established supplier with a good track record.

    Never had a dud.;)
