Hi oellph
are you ranging about the same for duration of gas central heating being on - my mum is approx 4 hours per day split over 2 in morning and two in evening.
she has started using a 2 bar halogen heater now to heat up the bedroom and I'm starting to think it will go pear shaped, ie. probably keep the gas bill down and rocket the electric bill!
isn't it something when being warm becomes a luxury? at least she gets the winter fuel allowance which will help cover it but it still worries you not knowing what sort of bill you are running up on a daily basis.0 -

I think i'm getting confused because he said 1 unit on the meter is 11kwh BUT the first 7kwh per day is at 6.886p then it drops to 3.172p per kwh after that.
so it's as if it's not easy to asecertain which rate you're on just by looking at the units on the meter going up.
so i will go by your figure above
About 61p on that tariff then-presumably there is no standing charge on top of that.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thing is you probably wouldn't have noticed this if this tariff didn't exist, as it would just average out across the bills. Least you've set your mind at easeMixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.0

The easiest way to calculate the cost is :
A standing charge of 26p per day and all gas consumed is 3.2p per kWh or 36p per cu m.
As for the electric heater, I keep my house at 20 deg 24/7 with loads of hot water and my conservatory warmed for the same price as a 2 bar electric fire 24 hours a day.0 -

Which, for your 106 meter units over 15 days is approx £40?0 -
yes that's too high, unless your mum is heating the house with the cooker! Give the gas provider a call and query it. There might be a mistake on your mum's account that needs to be rectified. with energy companies these days you never know what hidden charges there might be-- they might even be charging your mum to be on the plan. that's their idea of 'protection' these days--they might as well be running a protection racket. if i had my way we'd still have real fireplaces, at least we'd know what we were paying for the coal!0

For 5-8 units per day, its 2 hours in the morning and 5 hours in the evening. If we leave it on overnight it goes up to 13-15 units.0
