So, here's the conclusion
I went into uni and i was talking to the woman ... she noticed that where i came from is a good way away from the uni and said ...
we're not going to charge you!! :money:
the reason i was annoyed was the book was a short term loan so i thought it was going to be about £10 - she didn't tell me how much it was though. still a bit of a result imo!0 -

That is a result - surprised she didn't give you my answer ^^
Well done though!
Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.0 -
I did try to re-new online but it wouldn't let me because it was on hold. and there were no buses because of the weather.0

OP, one thing i have found with my library that may (or may not) happen for you was i had a few late books last year. becuase of the fine i took the books to be returned at the desk instead of the self service machines and the lady not only didnt charge me but when i mentioned i saw there were fines on my account told me not to worry and removed the fine. ive been told since that those who use the self service machines were made to pay the fine (ive since noticed a coin machine next to the self service for payments) but the librarians themselves really dont care so much about them being paid so long as the books come back.
it may not be the same for you, but im sure it cant hurt to try taking them to a librarian and seeing what happens.
You're lucky you can still go and talk to someone. To apparently improve customer service they got rid of the desk you could go to and replaced it with a call centre at my uni.
You can't pay cash for anything either has to be credit or debit card and as they have been unable to get online payments working for book returns you have to phone up the call centre to pay them.0 -

They stop you renewing once someone has reserved the book so the only option left then is to return it.
Glad you got a good result, OP.0 -
Indeed, I didn't factor in the witholding an award due to it.
That said though, they really shouldn't refer to them as fines.0 -
glad that common sense prevailed from the library!:happyhear0

If you couldn't make it yesterday afternoon why are you able to make it in today? Was there a massive thawing overnight?
TBH you were aware of the weather and presumably was aware of the date your books were due to be returned so you could've prepared.
There was plenty on the TV news about the weather we had up here, so I would have thought the whole of the UK was aware of the situation.
On Monday there was a massive fall of snow in Central Scotland, people were stuck in the snow and traffic for hours, even days. There were no buses or trains once the snow built up. Some roads were closed for 36 hours.
Even on Tuesday and Wednesday public transport was very limited.
On Wednesday overnight to Thursday the thaw began, so in the west life has started to return to normal. Towns on the east side still have huge amounts of snow on the streets.0 -
