If you are unable to save yourself what about giving your parents the money each month to put aside for you until you have enough. You can look at it as an increase in your digs money and it will be a nice surprise when you have saved enough to go buy it

Why not save the money in an account that its a pain in the bum to get the money out of, one without a cash card or internet banking. That way you could put your savings in at the start of the month when you have the cash to spare and you can't fritter the money away without going to extreme lengths. Smashing a Terramundi (or a piggy bank with the stopper superglued on) being another option.

GOing a step further everytime you have the three quid spare for a Starbucks coffee but walk past the shop without bung that in your sealed pot too. You'll be amazed how quickly you'll save the money especially if you go without the things you don't actually need for a while.. beer, fags and HD tv. Why not wait two years and get a 3D HD tv instead.

T...if its money left over at the end of the month it will be spent on nights out/food/drink ect ...hard as I try not to(dont go mad ladies and gentlemen you have all been there at some point yourselves!).

Don't use the excuse that "everybody does it" because not every 19 yr old acts like that, maybe just all the ones you know.

Try imposing a bit of self discipline by opening an account specifically for saving up, maybe one where you don't get on-line or cash machine access to the funds. Put the money in there as soon as you get it, maybe a standing order from your main account, and don't touch it until you have saved up enough for the luxuries you want.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

    Thanks Nan.

I will see what I can do with money from my christmas bonus + christmas money. Parents said they will pay the rest on a low interest card for me to pay back over the course of the next 3 months.

But, you won't get a low interest card at your age.

My partner did a very similar thing at your age and it spiralled... He can't get a mortgage, rent a decent house with him on the deeds [they do credit checks].. It has the potential to destroy your future does debt. It's so easy to say I won't spend more than X. But, you are a good back payer on your card, they increase your credit limit, it's someone's Birthday [put on your card], it's Christmas [put in on your card], I fancy a holiday [put it on a card]. Then you might want a new car [go to a dealer and they sell you a loan]. Before you know it you're in £15,000 worth of debt... It is so easy.

You say your parents don't earn much? What would happen if you lost your job, the insurance doesn't protect you forever.

People are not saying DO NOT DO IT, they are saying be very very very careful. We don't want to see you back here saying help... Take care

Thankyou but dont worry im not applying for one. I dont want a credit card as such as it would get over used.

HAHAHA :rotfl: the pros and cons of teenage life, but not quite. Working/living in London is very expensive even when your not paying the rent (or atleast not full whack). There is travel (both into the city and to other counties as this is where my friends live), food, rent, phone bill/internet, A levels which I am currently paying for through distance learning and weekends which can mount up. Apart from that im just useless at saving up if its unspoken for..

    Some tough talking needed here:
You mention that you are useless at saving and so your first thought is to get a loan. Even when no financial institution will give you a loan you approach this forum for advice on where to get a loan.
You are already on the slippery slope of I want I want I want and trying to get a loan to help you get it.
Please do stick to the promise you just made to yourself about not getting a credit card, at least until you have learnt how to save up for the nice things in life that you want.
No-one wants to spoil the fun in your life, you're young and so it's compulsory to enjoy yourself! But please do get into the savings habit now and make saving a priority. :)

Well id suggest saving, getting a loan wont help as you wont get used to saving and you will end up relying on credit to buy this and that, if you save up £250 for 4 months you have 1k saved up already so you can buy a 360 and a decent tv to go with it

but what you decide to do is your choice and your choice only,
