Halifax Mortgage Appeal

Hi
I was hoping that someone would be able to provide me with some hope?advice.
I have recently gone through a broker and applied for a mortgage with Halifax. It did not even pass the credit scoring stage.
I got a copy of my credit score from Experian and I noticed that Orange have placed a default on my credit file for £225. I have immediately contacted Orange to insist that they remove this. The reason why this small amount was outstanding was because Orange were unable to provide a service where I moved to. I terminated my contract with them on the grounds that they were unable to provide the service. I followed their own complaints procedure, I never had any response to emails/letters that I sent. I have also never had any written communication chasing me for money let alone advising of a default.
On this ground my broker has appealed the decision with the underwriters at Halifax, providing them with the letters that I have sent to Orange and also the correspondence from experian advising that they will help fight my cause with Orange.
Has anyone had a similar experience with Halifax? I just wanted to know if anyone has been successful in an appeal with them??
Any other advice that anyone can offer I would be so grateful. Apart from this default my credit file is spotless.
Thanks Dave

It would be exceptional to get a credit score decision overturned.
Don't expect any joy.

There's more to the lenders credit scoring "check" than merely an Experian report.
Lenders can choose their customers in the current market. There's no automatic right to being granted a mortgage.0 -
As an aside, you took out the service with orange, who were providing it as agreed until you moved and I guess cancelled the direct debit? Don't expect them to remove the default, there's loads of cases of this.0

You CHOSE to move to a new area. There is nothing in the contract to which you agreed that says 'you make walk away from your promise to pay, if you happen to need to move area'.
Your argument is akin to me saying I want my money back for a pair of skis I bought because I have now instead decided to have a summer holiday. Or - your boss saying he cannot pay you anymore due to some adhoc reason in his personal life.
No nunderwriter would walk away from an Orange credit agreement, so they expect other people to run thier affairs similarly.0 -
£225 is not a small amount, is my observation.Act in haste, repent at leisure.

you will never in a million years get a credit score fail overturned for a default. A recent missed cc payment that was a one off - maybe. Default - never!
