Windows XP Media Centre Edition

Hi

I am thinking of purchasing a laptop which contains all the features I need at a very decent price but it comes with the Windows XP Media Centre Edition (XP-MCE) OS. I understand that I can’t network the laptop to my other computer at home due to a inbuilt restriction on XP-MCE OS.

Is there an easy way to overcome this restriction? If not, can I upgrade the XP-MCE OS to XP Professional at a later date?

Thank you.

If you want XP Pro, get it with the laptop. There is no such thing as an "upgrade" any more, and you'd have to buy a new copy (at a bargain £235 from Amazon (for example)...

No such thing as an upgrade? So what are those 'upgrade' packs that I see being sold in Staples?

    Anyway; http://support.microsoft.com/kb/292607

My fault, I believed what was being put out by MS Marketing two or three years ago, that there wouldn't be an upgrade path from XP Home to Pro.

So you can get the 'regular' upgrade from Amazon for about £155 or the 'student' one for about £75.

Still seems a better bet to get XP Pro installed by the OEM on the laptop in the first place...
