Home & Contents Insurance - It pays to haggle

Last year I obtained my Home & Contents Insurance from Barclays.
They charged me 9 x £19.75 = £177.75 with no payments for the first three months.
When the renewal arrived this year it was for 12 x £28.83 = £345.96.
I shopped around and found on the Tesco comparison site a deal with Barclays for 9 x £21.44 = £192.96 with no payments for the first three months.
I phoned Barclays up and told them and they agreed to renew my existing policy for roughly the same amount but without the three month holiday.
I am now paying 12 x £16.41.
A total saving of £149.04 on the renewal premium for the second year.
