Next Day Delivery

My daughter ordered online on Sunday from Missguided and paid extra for next day delivery. It still hasn't arrived. She contacted the company and they put it down to the weather and said she should contact the delivery company with her tracking number.
She rang them and they said they had no idea when the item will be delivered because it hasn't left their central depot yet. Once it does it will be delivered next day. The delivery comany are HDNL.
Now we all know the weather has been bad but we've had lots of other stuff delivered and are Missguided being fair to customers by still offering the higher Next Day charge and then washing their hands of any problems?

well what do you want them to do?
they have sent it next day
some places it will be fine
others it wont
they cant predict or know that
the best I would expect is a refund of the extra cost of next day delivery cost.0 -
Have to say, I recently bought something and paid for next day delivery. Due to the adverse weather conditions it didnt arrive the next day, nor the day after, in fact it came some 7 days later. TBH I didnt think about getting the difference in postage back off the company, they have probably had a bad enough time financially without me adding to their backlog and possible financial strife.0

i accept not everyone has the same problems
but as an example.it took me over 2 hours to cross the city centre on Monday due to a heavy snowfall
that journey would take me a max of 20 minutes on a bad day!0 -

Nice friendly helpful response there, thanks - do you work in customer services by any chance?
It's not called sent next day - its called next day delivery.0 -

sigh
so what do you want them to do?
if you want i can get all emotive and say how terrible it is and how disgusted you must feel.
however if you have a look outside your bubble you may realise there are some issues.
so again, what do you want them to do?0 -

Ok - what do you want? I am sure if you ask them they will give you the difference in what was paid and what the actual delivery cost would have been had you chosen the normal post.
I have also had parcels delivered in this dreadful weather but I am also missing a number which are obviously caught up somewhere. I really cant get worked up about, I would much rather the staff of whatever courier was safe rather than taking risks to get a parcel to me.0 -

No they are not playing fair
They took extra money for next day delivery and the least they could do is refund the extra and chase their delivery agent, instead of pushing it of onto their customer.
I notice on their website that they are still offering next day delivery in spite of the conditions
Its poor customer service.
As to what to do about it either wait for the delivery or cancel under Distance Selling Regulations and buy elsewhere."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

I am actually breathless looking at the incredible apathy of some of the responses here. Yes, if the weather is bad, NO-ONE is expected to risk their lives so let's not go there.
But on an ordinary day, people purchase next day delivery for a purpose and if the delivery is missed, why is it acceptable. The proper thing to do is to either offer a refund or an option to deliver again. I ordered a next day delivery, paid £30 for it, as it was to be a birthday gift, it was not delivered. No weather problems. Now the moment is gone and I must accept it. By the way, I have not been refunded, I also don't have the item either.....0 -

the rest of your post is pointless
it tells nothing of your purchase, the delivery status or whatever.
no weather problems? so i assume you were ordering from next door?0 -
They haven't provided next-day delivery that they said they would, so there's no reason why they shouldn't just refund the difference in cost.
They have provided a standard service, so should charge for that.
The weather has prevented them from offering the service promised, so they charge for their standard service. Simple.0
