well done sally. As someone else who can also partly attribute a relationship breaking down to financial strains, I really feel for you.
Onwards and upwards..........or is it downwards as you're technically imminently moving south now"Stay Wonky":D

Well done Sally. xBlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -

Hi, I know this is a little premature, but my DFD will def happen!!
a. The date of your lightbulb moment
January 2008. I was (still am!!) a single parent. One freezing evening in January, my son (15months at the time) was taken ill. I had to take him to the out-of-hours GP. I didn't drive at the time, and only had enough cash on me for one taxi journey (had a bit more cash in my account but couldn't get to an ATM and taxi driver couldn't take card payment). I had to call my brother and get him to give us a lift when the out-of-hours doc referred my littley to the hospital. I remember hating myself so much that night, that I couldn't even drive my son to hospital without relying on others. So I vowed to get my butt in gear to get shot of debt, start driving lessons, get savings and a car!!
b. Debts at their highest
£14.5K
c. Debt-Free Date:j
10/09/2010!! (payment of £104.49 on the 27/8, another on 3/9 and a final payment of £18.38 on 10/9). NB I also got my full driving license in June 2009!!
d. Your one pearl of wisdom.
I have more than one!!....
Read the info on this site, and on the DFW forum (I've tended to lurk more than post, but that may change!!), and keep looking at this site - seriously, it makes life a lot easier knowing that you're not the only one to be going through this. The advice and info on this site is amazing, and people are just brilliant, so helpful, unjudgemental and positive.
Write down exactly what you owe (and who to), and go through your credit file to make sure that there's nothing on there that you don't know about! Then put on paper your income/outgoings...it makes life so much easier seeing everything written down. Tell your nearest and dearest....and don't give up!!
ETA...this will sound nasty but don't agree to (or think v carefully about!) take out credit for anyone (ie boyfriends) or live of credit just to help fund day-to-day living when a partner is out of work. I stupidly did this, got in a lot of debt, ended up robbing Peter to pay Paul....you all get the picture. Took out credit for most recent ex (father of my son) when we were together, I then fell pregnant and he !!!!!!ed off. Of course, every situ is different but yeah just be careful!!

But today I woke up debt free - best feeling! Stick to it, you can get here too.0 -
