Well Done VeronicaMars and everyone else who have become debt free this month0
-
Thank you Gothrockchic1!!!
Now...onto my flat deposit!!!x
Originally debt free 27th November 2014 :T
Mortgage July 2016 - £175,295.00 | Sept 2017 - £167,350.00 | Sept 2018 - £162,926.000 -
I started the year with just under £7.5 k although at its highest I owed around £12k. I've never really struggled with it as I'm a high earner so it just sat there. But, as I've got older and nearer retirement I decided to sort my finances.
I now have a much better attitude towards money that will stand me in good stead in years to come.0 -
Congratulations MissU !!!0

Seeing your message made me feel all good about it
It's quite an achievement and I hope to join you and the rest of the people on this thread in being DF one day0 -
I've just realised that I have posted on the MFW board, but not on this one...
a. The date of your lightbulb moment
upon being told I was being made redundant - mid December 2008
b. Debts at their highest
approx £10K (excluding Mortgage) - stuff like Car finance and Interest Free Credit for the three piece suite.
c. Debt-Free Date
June 2012 (excluding Mortgage - that went last year)
d. Your one perl of wisdom.
I keep track of our income and expenditure using MS Money - down to what cash I had in my Wallet! Each month I then fill in a spreadsheeet showing money in and money out. Whenever we are then faced with a potential purchase, big or small, I usually think of that spreadsheet before I make any rash decisions!
e. Links to the MSE guides that helped you - too many to link really - all the stuff on household finance and budgeting as well as saving money on insurance, utilities etc. This site does "exactly what it says on the tin"!
f. Which forum threads helped you
Loads and loads, including DFW, MFW, Haggling with Sky etc. The advice and support on these boards is fantastic.
Becoming debt free has allowed me to not have to return to work and remain a Stay at Home Dad to our 4 year old. :TI don't want to achieve immortality through my work, I want to achieve it through not dying0 -
Congratulations SAHD Jim !!!0

Light bulb moment:
May 2010
Debts at highest:
£35k - paid off in full! Credit cards / loans etc
Debt-Free Date:
October 2014
Pearls of wisdom:
Keep calm!!! I was big time spooked by the horrible attitude of the Halifax but whilst I will never deal with them again I do thank them for giving me the wake up call. I know some of the DMP companies get a bad rap but the service I got from B&E was excellent, the piece of mind they gave me was worth every penny....my pearl of wisdom however would be DMP fees, negotiate!!
Threads that helped:
Have read loads of the threads - not contributed to many but this site & forum is a phenomenal source of reference...WELL DONE ALL!!0 -
