frozen pipes ....nightmare!

We keep getting frozen pipes and ring the council as live in council property and by the time they come they ok again so they leave .

this time...had no hot water since sunday plumber came today and was here 2 hours trying to get my hot water working again ...nope not having any of it.

told me to wait a few more days and then ring council and will arrange for them to come back and start taking pipework out. When i said i have 2 children and have no hot water for their baths or ours he just said one of them things!

so annoying

We had a burst pipe and had no hot water for a week.Sorry but it is just one of those things and we managed with boiling a kettle and having a good wash down. Its not ideal but thats life.

If you really find it that difficult could you not have gone to a relative or neighbour for a shower/bath?

OP - although you live in a council property, have you considered trying to insulae the affected pipes youself to try to prevent them freezing, given the inconvenience caused to you when they freeze? Pipe insulation is not expensive.

    Hello Lyndsay.

I do sympathise with what you are going through, last year in the height of the bad weather our boiler had broken down and we were without heating for a week.

If there is nothing that they can do on the call out then im afraid that you kind of have to live with it,there is hopefully some friends or relatives that you can go to to keep you and your children clean and warm.

I truly hope that you get this resolved very soon.

what did you do to prevent the frozen pipes? if it happens all the time could you not have covered them in old newspaper/ bubblewrap? did you leave the heating on?

Be cold or pick up the flippin Yellow Pages and call a plumber out.

Would people rather be cold and continue moaning rather than try to be a little bit pro-active and help themselves??

Do you know which pipes are freezing? If so, can't you lag them? Keep the heating on? My dad used to hang a light bulb next to the cold water header tank in the loft; the heat it generated was enough to ensure the pipes didn't freeze.

Why not ask the plumber for advice seeing as he's forever having to come round?
