Some package holiday prices go up and down and others go up, one thing they want you to do now is book early, so boxing day might be too 'late'.

If it is a package holiday flying on a Saturday morning at about 11.30am in the summer school holidays to one of those family friendly lovely resorts on Majorca then the only way is up because of demand.

If it is flying on a Monday night about 11pm to Greece, with no free late check-out on the return day, then the demand profile is different and thus the price.

The new edition Thomas Cook group summer 2011 are on sale december 16th, which probably means the prices will go up, but travel agents generally give larger discounts in january so its hard to say whether its cheaper to buy now or january, although the travel business is quite slack this time of year so you could probably get a good deal and they will have more time to show you more if you're undecided as to exactly what you want.
