Royal mail special deliveries

Hi,

Has anyone had anything delivered through SD in the past few days, if so how long are they taking.

Also on the tracking, it doesnt seem to be have been updated just says "being progressed through our network for delivery" with the address of the post office. When this gets picked up from the post office to the local sorting office does this change

think the official response on how long they are taking is - how long is a piece of string.

Depends on a number of factors

    1) Where was it sent from (i.e. rural post office in snowed in village)
    2) Where is it going to (i.e. rural farm in the middle of the farthest northern place in the country)
    3) Which method is being used to transport it from 1 - 2 (trains cancelled, planes cancelled, roads at a standstill).

I know you were looking for a rough idea - but unless folk know 1 & 2 or provide you with 1 & 2 in their response, I don't think it'll be any help to you.

You can check Royal Mail website for more information. http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/jump1?catId=400144&mediaId=112300784

forgot to mention - the location of the Special item will definitely update when received at the delivery office it's to be delivered from.

I don't think it changes when picked up from the post office initially, but I'm willing to be corrected if I'm wrong.
  • Well its coming from southern scotland, checked with RM customer services they havent even collected it yet, they dont seem to have any idea when things are gonna start moving again.

Yes as for the tracking website, i dont think its that acurate, they can tell when things have been collected.

Guess I`ll be able to have another lie in tommorowo.
  • In the last eight days the postman has only been twice (Monday & today). They are not allowed out as the pavements are so dangerous. I am awaiting a recorded delivery which hasn't appeared but loads of junk mail has so there is not much prioritising going on.

I have about a dozen parcels stuck in the system for orders going back to 27 November from a variety of couriers, mainly Royal Mail.

I grabbed the postie this afternoon and he said there is an enormous backlog at the sorting office and they are working through it!!

On another note we haven't seen the binmen for a week and a half either.

    Ho Hum......

    I'm in Bromley, Kent

I've just got a pile of mail delivered this morning, Some dated being sent on the 27th Novemeber

Pants but they must have a hell of a back log
If Adam and Eve were created first
.Does that mean we are all inbred
  • Weve had a similair problem here, i spoke to our postie today he said the pavement was too dangourous, we had post on monday and are due to get some tommorow, however our sorting office is 5 minutes away i drove there and got mail postmarked from the 2nd, this was 2nd class.

I just got off the phone to Royal mail apprantly my parcel is on the list of offices due for colllection today, and told me to keep an eye on the tracking site. Does anyone know if the tracking changes description as it gets sorted? The guy on the phone was alittle vague..
  • Last I heard, they had temporarily withdrawn special delivery as they could not guarantee it as a result of adverse weather conditions in some areas.

folks, you just have to be patient
    the network is in tatters
SD's are usually flown and as you have seen the airports are closed
travelling by road has its own problems
then when it gets to the mail centre you then have the issue of getting to the delivery offices
my old office is running a system of sending 2 posties in a van to do one duty
so one can push when the vans get stuck(and they do!)
so that means the office is running with effectively 50% staff
the council arent touching anything but main streets and anyone in Edinburgh will testify how bad the pavements are

did this as a separate post
the tracking on the customer site will not change until the item reaches the delivery office
the RM intranet site shows tracking points but the customer site doesnt
    now for a sticking point
when hits the delivery office it should update as on delivery, but if the scan it as inaccessible(the only resolution that fits the situation)
then the customer site will update that a delivery attempt has been made and a card left.
theres nothnig the DO's can do to stop this but the intranet reflects the true status.
if your tracking number shows this message then its either on delivery or at the DO (but at least you know its in your local area)
