Voluntary Redundancy Application Rejected - What now? Help please

I had applied for voluntary redundancy at my company a few months ago, as the package they were offering was pretty good - 38 weeks wages tax free. However, today I've been told that my application wasn't successful. The process has apparently been done by looking at solely the cost of removing the post, and not taken into account anything about the person in the post.
It is possible that there may be some compulsary redundancies coming up in the future (no dates decided as yet), however the criteria for this is more people based, i.e. sickness record, skillsets, disciplinary, etc. and this is where I am worried. I have been suffering from depression and have been signed off work by the doctor since the end of August, so I'm concerned that this will be a reason to make my redundant under any compulsary scheme.
So my question is, does there have to be any time period elapsed between them rejecting me for voluntary redundancy and then potentially making me compulsary redundant?

Unfortunately, I don't believe there are any restrictions which apply after being turned down.
When my company made a large number of people redundant, one volunteer was turned down one week, and then told the very next week he was going as a compulsory redundancy. Fortunately for him, his terms gave him a better deal, which was costly to the company. What an emotional rollercoaster ride - hopes, rejection, and finally success, all within a few days!0 -
Thanks dampsquib - I had a feeling that may be the case. I guess I just need to cross my fingers that I'll be ok. It is a good idea when a company is offering VR to try to negotiate better terms and time periods for not being made redundant if VR is rejected
So something like the same package for compulsory redundacies with in a period of say 6 months or longer if you can.0
